U.S. Military History Question Series

I thought that a U.S. military history question series would be interesting. I hope some young folks will read these questions and be motivated to learn more about the Greatest Military ever.

What branch of the U.S. military sank the first Japanese naval vessel of WWII, and where?
Now even harder what type of weapon was used?

    USMC, Wake Island, 5" coastal defense gun.

    I knew a Marine would get this. I saw it on the History Channel for about the 5th time. I never get tired of hearing about our guys in these battles. Thank you for commenting on my post. There will be more of this type of question so keep checking.
